Scholarships from diversiCOM

FRED Scholarship

diversiCOM is proud to support a national scholarship program entitled Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED). This program was developed and is funded by more than 1,000 small, independent telephone companies throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. FRED strongly supports and awards students whose career path will bring them back to a rural area.

These scholarships are available to higher education students of any age.

In 2007 the FRED scholarship selection committee chose 53 applicants to receive scholarships ranging from $500 - $5,000. diversiCOM has participated in this program since 1999 and is proud to have had at least one of their applicants chosen each year. FRED scholarship applications may be downloaded at www.fred.org, or picked up from your local high school guidance counselor.

All FRED applications must be returned to diversiCOM by January 31, 2008, to enable us to prepare a letter of nomination, prior to forwarding to FRED.

L.H. Arvig Memorial Scholarship

In addition to supporting the FRED foundation, diversiCOM established the L.H. Arvig Memorial Scholarship program in 1986 in memory of L.H. Arvig, the long time owner of Melrose Telephone Company. Each year $4,000 is divided between the high schools in our service area. In an effort to reach more students, two $1,000 At-Large scholarships are presented to students who live in our service area, however attend a high school outside of the area.

You may print an application here. If you have further questions, please contact your local high school guidance counselor or our business office.

Applications for the L.H. Arvig Scholarship are due no later than April 4, 2008.
